VoteVets.org, League of Conservation Voters & America’s
Building Trades Unions Launch TV Ad Campaign to Thank
Rep. Bono Mack for Supporting Clean Energy Bill

(Washington, June 3) On the heels of her vote for a comprehensive clean energy bill, VoteVets.org, the League of Conservation Voters and America’s Building Trades Unions launched a joint television ad to thank Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) for supporting legislation that will create millions of new clean energy jobs and reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil.

The ad can be viewed at www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6mwV-W-8fY.

Last month, Rep. Bono Mack voted for the American Clean Energy & Security Act (H.R. 2454) in the House Energy & Commerce Committee. The legislation was voted out of the committee by a bipartisan group of 33 House members. Additionally, the bill has received unprecedented support from a broad range of corporations, utilities, labor unions, veterans, environmentalists and sportsmen, including Duke Energy, American Electric Power, GE, Johnson & Johnson and the AFL-CIO.

“Billions in Middle East oil profits have gone to the same terrorists we’re fighting, and it makes no sense from a military or national security standpoint,” said Jon Soltz, an Iraq War veteran and Chairman of VoteVets.org. “But thanks to Representative Bono Mack’s vote for the American Clean Energy and Security Act, we are one step closer to ending our dependence on foreign oil.”

“We applaud Representative Bono Mack for saying ‘no’ to the failed energy policies of the past and voting for a comprehensive clean energy bill that safeguards the country, jump-starts the economy and protects the planet for future generations,” said Gene Karpinski, president of the League of Conservation Voters.

“Representative Bono Mack has voted to build a new clean energy economy that will create the industries of tomorrow and millions of new clean energy jobs,” said Mark H. Ayers, president of the Building & Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, which represents 13 unions with more than 2 million skilled U.S. craft workers.

The TV ad, titled “Bold,” is running on cable channels throughout Rep. Bono Mack’s district starting today.

Prior to last month’s committee vote, America’s Building Trades Unions ran TV ads in Rep. Bono Mack’s district illustrating that that a clean energy jobs plan will make America a global leader in energy, while also developing the domestic energy technologies that will create American jobs and strengthen our economy for years to come (www.vimeo.com/4364913). Additionally, the League of Conservation Voters ran radio ads in the district exposing Big Oil’s attempts to mislead the public and scare members of Congress into voting against the American Clean Energy & Security Act (www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ELtksRhp3Q).
